Congratulations, Trello!

So, the news is out: Trello is now part of Atlassian! I’m incredibly excited for my friends at Trello, and especially proud of Michael Pryor and Joel Spolsky, who not only cofounded Trello, but cofounded Fog Creek Software— our scrappy little independent company where Trello was born.

Fog Creek and Trello don’t just share cofounders, we share a lot of the same DNA, and we even share the same beautiful office as our NYC headquarters. The same innovative process that resulted in Trello’s invention has yielded Gomix, which we think has the same potential to change the way people work and collaborate and create. And while there are ways we’ll be competing now (we really do think you’ll love FogBugz as an alternative to Jira!) we’re mostly just proud to see our sibling company succeed.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, or just want to see how a world-class product was born at Fog Creek, we hope you’ll take a look back at some great milestones in Trello history:

Here’s a wonderful look back at how Trello was created at Fog Creek, in conversation with some of the people who were there at the time.

Watch Joel Spolsky demonstrate Trello to the public for the first time at TechCrunch’s Disrupt conference in 2011.

We’ll have lots more to say in the days and weeks to come, but today we just wanted to celebrate that idea that a smart and simple idea created by thoughtful people can have a huge impact on the way that people work and collaborate every day. We’re happy to see our friends reach a milestone reflecting that success, and we promise to keep trying to do exactly that.
